The uniform is an important part of the Scouting program, especially for the youngest boys just starting their boy scout trail. It identifies the boys and adults and gives them a sense of belonging to the den, the pack, and the Boy Scouts of America. Scouts enjoy wearing their Cub Scout Uniform as it gives them a chance to show off their hard work and achievements through patches, badges, beads, pins, and beltloops. They should wear it to all den meetings, pack meetings, and special pack activities unless informed otherwise.
The current uniform for Tigers through Bears, introduced in August 2004, is the official blue Cub Scout shirt with level appropriate (ie. Tiger, Wolf, Bear) neckerchief and neckerchief slide. The official Cub Scout Cap (Tiger, Wolf, Bear) and blue web belt with a cub scout or level appropriate (Tiger, Wolf, Bear) belt buckle are optional but recommended. There are also blue socks with either orange or yellow band on them based on the scout level which completes the uniform. Adult partners don't have to wear a uniform, but it is highly recommended that they wear a Pack T-shirt.
The Uniform Inspection Sheet has insignia placement guides. If you wonder where a patch goes, it is probably a 'temporary' patch. See Scouting FAQ page for help - it can be displayed on the right pocket, red vest, wall display, or shoebox.
The uniforms shown here are known as the Field Uniforms. The Activity Uniform is a Scouting-related T-Shirt and scout pants. These two uniforms (Field and Activity) are often referred to as Class A and Class B uniforms, although that is not correct BSA terminology.
Pack 39 has designed their own "Class B" Pack T-Shirt which is for sale through the pack for $12 per shirt or on this site in the future for $13/shirt. Youth and Adult sizes are available. More information about this shirt is under uniforms on this website.
Uniform details, price changes, and other scouting gear is found at ScoutStuff.Org - and you can now purchase online.
