Earning awards for achievements during scouting is important as it enables scouts to display thier accomplishments and how hard they've worked. As with any organizations uniform, there is defined placement and protocol with cub scout uniforms indicating where on a uniform to properly display awards. The following diagrams demonstrate where to place insignia and patches on your scout's uniform. You can also reference the Cub Scout Uniform Inspection Sheet which has insignia placement guides. If you wonder where a patch goes, it is probably a 'temporary' patch. See Scouting FAQ page for help - temorary patches typically can be displayed on the right pocket, red vest, wall display, or shoebox. The diagrams below should provide general guidelines on where to place patches and insignia on your Scout's uniform. Other than the initial uniform patches required (US Flag, District Arm Patch, Pack Numerals, and Scout Emblem) other patches and badges will be earned by your scout during the program and presented to him as they are achieved.
TIP: While sewing on patches provides the most durability, there are options for sewing tape (double sided tape) that can be cut to size and used to stick patches or insignia on a uniform. This type of tape is available at the scout store and may also be available at other sewing stores.
For locations to purchase the base uniform patches you can buy, you can retrieve a list of Scout shops and distributors in your area at this Scout Store Locator
